Step 4: Visualise
1. Purpose
Visualizing the "Picture of the Future" is the final step in this phase. You typically bring in a designer at the end of the Vision Workshop to brief them with the story you’ve prepared. The designer then turns that briefing into the Picture of the Future.
The workshop answers don’t dictate every visual detail, so the designer needs more than design skills. They need to understand the business context, translate the answers into visual language, and fill any remaining gaps with experience and judgment.
Speed matters here: the designer should produce a first version fast and send it back to the Vision Workshop participants for feedback. Expect another two to three iteration loops before the picture reaches the quality you need. Once it’s ready, document the Picture of the Future and export it into formats you can use for further work and communication across the company.
2. Duration
2 weeks
3. Key Activities
The following activities represent the core of this phase:
Brief the Designer: Vision Workshop participants present the designer with the story behind the Picture of the Future. The designer asks questions and develops an initial structure and visual language for the picture.
Design a first version: Within a few days, the designer delivers a first version of the "Picture of the Future" so Vision Workshop participants can give detailed feedback quickly. The designer incorporates that feedback into a new version. Expect another two to three iterations.
Document precisely: Once the design is finished, document the "Picture of the Future" in detail. Describe every core element of the picture, including the guiding principles, goals, and progress indicators.
