Phase II

Consolidation Workshop (Phase II)

In the consolidation workshop, results are turned into insights. Often, the intensive work with research findings in itself stimulates the team to think up initial ideas.

1. Purpose

In the consolidation workshop, we bring all the findings together. Just like a jigsaw puzzle, we piece all the individual parts together and, as a team, see a clear picture.

When the exploration is broad in scope, the insights from the individual areas come together to form a deep understanding of the playground.

During customer research, we develop and describe a target group segmentation and identify their different needs.

The team should draw up a recommendation for the sponsor on what the next steps should be following the exploration.

2. Duration

1 full day + preparation and documentation

3. Participants

4. Preparation

As a Team Member

Every research activity needs to be fully documented. While putting the documentation together, make sure to pull out the quotes and findings that are especially sharp and meaningful. Store everything in the shared location we agreed on, so that everyone on the team can get to it.

You should know your findings well enough to walk through them clearly and briefly,

Please also check that all assigned tasks have been completed and documented.

As a Business Design Coach

Before the workshop, get an overview of the insights the team has gathered. Be clear about what the structure (not the content) of the exploration’s outcome should look like. In the case of customer research: consider possible axes for segmentation (but let the team decide on the axes themselves during the workshop).

Think through possible next steps once the exploration is complete, so that you can discuss them with the team.

6. Q & A

  1. What if there are still uncompleted tasks? As a coach, you should address this before the consolidate workshop. Talk to the team member in charge about the reasons that hinder him/her. If you expect the findings to be crucial for the consolidation and recommendation, think about possible solutions. Maybe another team member can support.

  2. What if the team cannot agree on a recommendation? Try to uncover the underlying motives. Is the team uncomfortable with breaking away from established ways of thinking? Are the interests of other departments at stake?

Arrange a meeting with the sponsor as soon as possible.
